Des Moines Performing Arts has an exciting opportunity for students interested in marketing world-class arts, entertainment, education and cultural activities.

We are seeking current college students anticipating a graduation date later than May 2018 for our spring marketing internship program. Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, event advertising, promotional duties and assisting with season marketing activities including the popular Willis Broadway Series at the Des Moines Civic Center. This position is ideal for students majoring in marketing, communications or advertising. Skills in copywriting, graphic design, video production, digital advertising and social media are preferred.  

This paid internship will begin January 2017. Applicants must be available a minimum of 15-20 hours per week. This position is temporary and will end May 2017.

Des Moines Performing Arts is seeking a customer focused, self-motivated, detail oriented and highly organized professional to play a leading role as a Part Time Customer Service Team Member in our Ticket Office.  The ideal candidate for this position will have a natural passion for the performing arts and top notch customer service skills. 

The Part Time Customer Service Team Member’s primary responsibility is to build long-term relationships with our guests by offering exceptional guest service, primarily via phone and at the box office window.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Part Time Customer Service Team Member’s primary responsibility is to support ticket office operations by assisting guests with ticket purchases, processing orders and other requests while upholding the integrity of Des Moines Performing Arts’ Quality Standards.

  • Transactional/Administrative: Process ticket sales accurately, i.e. price tickets appropriately (donor price code, etc.) and process exchanges properly. Utilize resources such as process documentation when needed. Complete accurate balance out sheet at end of shift.
  • Guest Experience: Create positive, consistent guest experience by interacting in polite, professional and friendly manner. Avoid internal language (price code, etc.) and utilize the ‘service no’ as appropriate. Exhibit ‘guest first’ attitude.
  • Availability/Punctuality: Maintain reasonable monthly availability, defined as 35 hours per month. Work scheduled hours, does not habitually swap out of shifts. Arrives and preps workstation to open at scheduled shift start time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Retail/Service experience preferred and ability to demonstrate strong guest-focused engagement
  • Proactive thinking and ability to effectively complete projects
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to receive feedback and take action when appropriate
  • Available to work a flexible schedule that meets the needs of the business including day, evenings, holidays, weekends
  • Must be available a minimum of three (3) shifts Monday through Friday OR 4 shifts in the evening and weekend (including at least 1 weekend day)
  • Minimum education level is High School graduate or equivalent
  • Job may require lifting boxes that weigh up to 40lbs
  • Must maintain a professional appearance
