Des Moines Performing Arts seeks a part-time Guest Services Associate for event set up, basic inventory functions including receiving, stocking and product rotation, and providing assistance to the guest service department as needed including equipment maintenance and cleaning of equipment and utensils.

Qualified candidates should have:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.  Experience with performing arts or customer service a plus. Experience with Microsoft Suite a plus.
  • Responsible for setting up for events including verifying table placement to map, linens and beverage set up.
  • Responsible for receiving deliveries, stocking products and product rotation.
  • Responsible for cleaning equipment used for beverage set up including scheduled cleaning of ice machines, coffee services, equipment, utensils, etc. 
  • Responsible for ensuring the staff refrigerators in the building are stocked.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Des Moines Performing Arts has an exciting opportunity for students interested in arts education and event management.

We are seeking current college students for our internship program within the programming and education department. The Education Intern’s primary responsibilities will include supporting the planning and implementation of the Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards, summer camps, audience engagement experiences and school-based programs.

Candidates can expect to gain experience in event management and performing arts education. Primary summer projects will likely include:

  • Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards: maintain database of school and adjudicator program materials; assist in the creation of communication pieces; support Awards Showcase implementation
  • Summer Camps: assist in event preparation and management, act as a liaison to faculty, students, and families.
  • Audience Engagement: research audience engagement opportunities for upcoming season’s events.
  • Applause Series performances: assist in the development of curriculum and marketing materials, research special school-based projects connected to identified shows.

This position is ideal for students majoring in theater, education or arts administration.

Excellent communication and organizational skills required. Experience in event management and working with youth, as well as a passion for the arts, is highly desirable.

This paid internship will begin May 2017. Applicants must be available a minimum of 20-30 hours per week, with more hours during peak programming times. This position is a seasonal-based temporary position and will conclude mid-August.

Des Moines Performing Arts has an exciting opportunity for current college students interested in arts and theater education to serve as a Teaching Assistant.

The Teaching Assistant’s primary responsibilities include supporting summer camp faculty in the execution of musical theater-based performance camps for young artists in grades 3-8. The Teaching Assistant will assist in the rehearsal process, facilitate skill-building workshops outside of rehearsals, and provide additional support to create a safe and supportive environment for participating youth.

This position is ideal for students majoring in theater, music or education and who have a passion for working with young people.

Excellent communication and organizational skills required. Experience in event management and a passion for the arts is highly desirable.

This position will begin early June 2017. Applicants must be available a minimum of 20-40 hours per week, with more hours during peak programming times. This position is a seasonal-based temporary position and will conclude early August. Stipend provided.

Des Moines Performing Arts seeks a dynamic, highly qualified Director/Choreographer for its Summer Fellowship program. The fellowship invites emerging directors enrolled in graduate programs or equivalent experience to collaboratively lead a series of summer, musical theater-based performance camps for young artists in grades 3-8.

Director/Choreographer will be responsible for:

  • Participating in production meetings and camp planning prior to start of sessions
  • Auditioning participants and casting decisions
  • Leading rehearsals, including staging scenes and choreographing musical numbers
  • Facilitating daily skill-based workshops outside of rehearsals
  • Creating a safe and supportive atmosphere for participants to explore, grow, and create

Required skills and experience:

  • MA or MFA candidates preferred, Bachelors in Theater, Directing, or Acting required
  • Previous experience in directing
  • Demonstrated ability to choreograph and teach movement for various experience levels
  • Previous experience working with youth
  • Excellent communication, organizational and facilitation skills

This fellowship will begin early June 2017. Applicants must be available a minimum of 40-45 hours per week. The fellowship will conclude late July, with the option of extending through mid-August if additional camp sessions are added to meet demand. Stipend and housing assistance provided.
