Des Moines Performing Arts is seeking a customer focused, self-motivated, detail oriented and highly organized professional to play a leading role as a Part Time Customer Service Team Member in our Ticket Office.  The ideal candidate for this position will have a natural passion for the performing arts and top notch customer service skills. 

The Part Time Customer Service Team Member’s primary responsibility is to build long-term relationships with our guests by offering exceptional guest service, primarily via phone and at the box office window.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Part Time Customer Service Team Member’s primary responsibility is to support ticket office operations by assisting guests with ticket purchases, processing orders and other requests while upholding the integrity of Des Moines Performing Arts’ Quality Standards.

  • Transactional/Administrative: Process ticket sales accurately, i.e. price tickets appropriately (donor price code, etc.) and process exchanges properly. Utilize resources such as process documentation when needed. Complete accurate balance out sheet at end of shift.
  • Guest Experience: Create positive, consistent guest experience by interacting in polite, professional and friendly manner. Avoid internal language (price code, etc.) and utilize the ‘service no’ as appropriate. Exhibit ‘guest first’ attitude.
  • Availability/Punctuality: Maintain reasonable monthly availability, defined as 35 hours per month. Work scheduled hours, does not habitually swap out of shifts. Arrives and preps workstation to open at scheduled shift start time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Retail/Service experience preferred and ability to demonstrate strong guest-focused engagement
  • Proactive thinking and ability to effectively complete projects
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to receive feedback and take action when appropriate
  • Available to work a flexible schedule that meets the needs of the business including day, evenings, holidays, weekends
  • Must be available a minimum of three (3) shifts Monday through Friday OR 4 shifts in the evening and weekend (including at least 1 weekend day)
  • Minimum education level is High School graduate or equivalent
  • Job may require lifting boxes that weigh up to 40lbs
  • Must maintain a professional appearance

Des Moines Performing Arts seeks a part-time Guest Services Associate for event set up, basic inventory functions including receiving, stocking and product rotation, and providing assistance to the guest service department as needed including equipment maintenance and cleaning of equipment and utensils.

Qualified candidates should have:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.  Experience with performing arts or customer service a plus. Experience with Microsoft Suite a plus.
  • Responsible for setting up for events including verifying table placement to map, linens and beverage set up.
  • Responsible for receiving deliveries, stocking products and product rotation.
  • Responsible for cleaning equipment used for beverage set up including scheduled cleaning of ice machines, coffee services, equipment, utensils, etc. 
  • Responsible for ensuring the staff refrigerators in the building are stocked.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Des Moines Performing Arts (DMPA) is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Usher.  This position will be responsible for taking tickets and assisting patrons during shows at Des Moines Performing Arts venues.   Our Ushers ensure the highest level of customer service to all guests attending events hosted by the Des Moines Performing Arts.

The primary duties of a DMPA Usher are not limited to:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 
  • Two or more years direct customer service experience.
  • Check assigned area prior to opening for cleanliness and safety.           
  • Assist guests in locating their seats, answering general questions, and attending to their needs /concerns before, during and after the performance as well as during intermission. 
  • Place inserts in programs; distribute programs to locations and to guests.         
  • Seat guests arriving late in accordance with the House Manager’s directions and as guided by the Lobby Supervisor.      
  • Stand at assigned door during performance; assist guests with needs and concerns as they may arise.              
  • Respond to emergencies in accordance with level of training and DMPA policies and procedures.           
  • Ability to work evenings, weekend and occasional holiday hours.

Des Moines Performing Arts (DMPA) is currently seeking a Ticket Office Manager.  This position is responsible for hiring and training all ticket office staff to ensure they are knowledgeable about our products and deliver exceptional customer service.  Additionally, this position assists in building events in the ticketing system and oversees the work of ticket office personnel.

The primary duties of a Ticket Office Manager include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise, hire and train all ticket office staff.  Schedule staff appropriately to ensure timely guest services across all hours of operation.  Coach and evaluate staff according to exceptional customer service strategies.
  • Coordinate with ticket office management team to provide leadership during business hours.  Ensure outstanding and timely service to our guests. 
  • Coordinate with ticket office management team to provide leadership during events, including nights, weekends and holidays. 
  • Communicate with company management to provide requested sales data, ensure accurate processing of ticket requests, and facilitate event settlement.
  • Build assigned events and series in the ticketing systems.  Proof event/series and promotion builds for quality control.  Provide sales data, analysis, and database information.  Identify areas for improvement within policies and procedures.

Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of three years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; experience working with ticketing systems; supervisory and staff scheduling/coordination experience preferred; experience working in customer service or call center; experience working in performing arts and non-profit organizations is highly preferred.  This position will require some nights, weekends, and holidays.
