Professional Development for Educators

By showing educators how to integrate the arts – drama, music, dance, and visual – with instruction in core subject areas, Des Moines Performing Arts helps educators infuse new life into traditional subjects. More importantly, research shows that arts integration strategies tap into the way that our brains learn best. The arts help students to master material in traditional subjects, and along the way, develop the essential skills of creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration required by a 21st century world.

Des Moines Performing Arts' professional development opportunities are jointly presented with Des Moines Public Schools as part of a formal partnership through the John F. Kennedy Center’s national Partners in Education program. This program builds local partnership teams and provides them with planning strategies and national-level resources to implement arts-based professional development for teachers.

“This was one of the best workshops I’ve been to…it was engaging and meaningful. Definitely the way we should be teaching in our classrooms with our students.”

“Absolutely loved it! I have taught 27 years and I have never been this excited to implement a new strategy in my classroom!! It’s given me and my career new life!”
