WhyOhWhyOhWhy: African Porquoi Tales
Charlotte Blake Alston (United States)
Grades K-5
JOIN US FOR TALES THAT MAKE YOU SAY, "HMMM"!
Master storyteller Charlotte Blake Alston brings to life centuries old African folk stories that have stood the test of time. These ‘Why’ stories were designed to offer the listener food for thought by offering creative and humorous ideas about natural phenomena and man’s relationship with the earth and universe. At the center of many of these tales are characters you may know, such as Anansi the Spider from Ghana or Sungura the Rabbit from Kenya. This tradition followed Africans to America where Br’er Rabbit and Br’er Fox were born. Come listen, laugh, join in, tap your fingers to your temple and say “Hmmm?” as you listen to these classic ‘Why’ stories!
Charlotte Blake Alston enhances her dynamic storytelling by accompanying herself on traditional instruments such as djembe, mbira, shekere or the 21-stringed kora.
Please note: all children who enter the theater for this production must have a ticket and be at least three years old
