CHICAGO FOOTWORK FOUNDATION

Come kick it and learn Chicago Footwork foundation and more about the history of this 40+ year old dance form from Chicago with Kelli Forman of Creation Global, a Footwork dance crew established in 2001 by King Charles with over 100 members world-wide. All levels are welcome!

Join us in learning Chicago Footwork foundation and history from the incredible Mike D! All levels are welcome, as Mike D is not only a master dancer, MC, teaching artist, and community leader from Chicago, he is also known to have that special spirit that gets everyone up and grooving!

Join us in learning Toprock and Breaking foundation and history from Samo! We have the joy of hosting the one and only Samo in Des Moines after he recently trained breakers representing the United States in the Paris Olympics. Samo is a very talented battler, performer, and teaching artist who loves connecting with the community and sharing his knowledge with the next generation.

Community conversation with Samo and Mike D facilitated by Kelli Forman. Hear these world-renowned dancers and instructors speak about the world of Breaking and Chicago Footwork. Learn what it means to them, how its visibility has changed, both in the US and internationally, and where they see it going and growing.

Join us in learning New York City House foundation and history from Samo, a very gifted dancer and teaching artist who travels the world performing, teaching, and battling in House and Breaking. All levels are welcome in learning about NYC House dance and music from Samo, who is from and has fully embodied the NYC source and flow. Do not miss this opportunity to learn from a master dancer and teacher!

We are excited to have two teaching artists back-to-back in Des Moines, to showcase the differences and similarities of Chicago and New York City House dance music, grooves, footwork, and history. Join us in learning Chicago House from Mike D Chicago, a truly inspirational community leader and professional dancer who knows how to share positive vibes alongside the moves! All levels are welcome in learning about Chicago House dance and music with Mike D from Chicago.

Samo Soto is a NYC native and started his dance career through humble beginnings, going to school dances and house parties, he just felt a natural talent for the arts. At the age of 16 he started break dancing and after years of dedication to the dance style, Samo has diversified his skill set and is proficient in House dance, Hip-Hop, and is renown for his freestyle in each of these genres. With his raw presence and sharp movement, his bold dance style always leaves a refreshing statement. With experience in working on major motion films, awards shows, commercials, and live performances; Some of Samo’s notable credits include working with Chris Brown, Mariah Carey, Daddy Yankee, had a feature role in “Battle Of The Year 3D”, was a dance consultant on “The Get Down” original Netflix series, as well as being featured as talent throughout the series. Aside from his accomplishments in the commercial industry, he holds numerous titles in the international competition circuit in various countries, being known as one of the best top rock champions of his time, winning Juste Debout 2012 in Paris, France. Samo travels the world performing, judging, and teaching the dance styles he has spent numerous years perfecting. His ambition to leave a lasting imprint on the world and inspire generations to come is what continues to drive Samo to greatness. Samo recently went to the Paris Olympics as a trainer for the United States Breaking team. He is an extremely talented battler, performer, and teaching artist who loves connecting with the community and sharing his knowledge with the next generation.<br /> <br /> Mike D Chicago is a multi-talented artist and professional dancer from the Southside of Chicago. For years he lived in these amazing gifts and talents on separate occasions but now he has been blessed to do them all together or in close proximity. Sing, dance, rap, instruct, mentor, produce, create and choreograph. Mike D is also a host and songwriter. His single “Claim It” and follow up single “Everybody Ain’t Inner Circle” has already become a favorite amongst many songs. Mike D Chicago’s music has been heard and used for inspiration all across the globe. As a dance performer, educator and choreographer Mike D has worked with big brands, organizations and stages such as Yale University, Apple, Nike, Timberland, Snipes, RedBull, Puma, Chicago Bulls, Chicago Sky Chance The Rapper, DLOW, Taylor Bennet, Kanye West just to name a few, as well as performed at Houston Live Stock and Rodeo, Rolling Loud, NBA All Star Game, Good Morning America and Lollapalooza. Mike D is still consistently inspiring across the city of Chicago. You can catch him every Thursday night teaching our Community Werks class at Healthy Hood Chicago. Community Werks is a donation based class, and focuses less on being perfect in the dance move you’ve been taught, and more on filling your cup up and doing something either new for you or something that you haven’t done in a while.
