To celebrate Kimberly Akimbo in Des Moines, we took Max Santopietro (Aaron) and Gabby Beredo (Delia) on a Great Adventure through the city! It was part sightseeing tour, part photo shoot, and all about soaking up the places that make Des Moines special!

Morning Fuel

Horizon Line Coffeehouse
We kicked off the day with coffee from Horizon Line Coffeehouse, grabbing drinks to go before heading out for a full morning of exploring.

Pappajohn Sculpture Park & Timepiece
Our first Great Adventure stop took us through the Western Gateway Corridor. Max and Gabby explored the sculptures at Pappajohn Sculpture Park after stopping at Timepiece, where they reflected on the idea of “making the most of your time”—a theme that resonates deeply with Kimberly Akimbo.

East Village Highlights

Iowa State Capitol, Raygun, Daisy Chain & Storyhouse Book
Next up: the East Village. We visited the Iowa State Capitol for classic Des Moines views, then popped into Raygun, Daisy Chain, and Storyhouse Bookshop—all conveniently housed together—for some local flavor. We wrapped the stop at the iconic rainbow corner, adding a burst of color (and joy) to the adventure.

Downtown Des Moines

Murals & City Strolls
The final leg of the Great Adventure took us downtown to The Iowa Women of Achievement Bridge and two must-see murals: Better Together at 5th & Locust and A Love Letter to Des Moines at 2nd & Court. Between murals and city streets, Max and Gabby took in the energy of downtown before heading back to the Civic Center.

From coffee to sculptures to murals, it was a perfectly Des Moines way to spend the morning—and a Great Adventure we won’t forget.
