Broadway’s Next Hit Musical: The Only Show That Hasn’t Been Written Yet
February 18, 2025BROADWAY'S NEXT HIT MUSICAL
What if you went to a Broadway-style musical where the plot, songs, and choreography had never been seen before—and never would be again? That’s exactly what happens at Broadway’s Next Hit Musical, coming to the Temple Theater March 11–16.
This fully improvised show is unlike anything you’ve seen before. A cast of top-tier improv comedians and musicians from New York City will take audience suggestions and turn them into an on-the-spot, never-before-heard musical—right before your eyes.
How It Works
When you arrive, you’ll see slips of paper and a giant fishbowl. This is where the fun begins. Write down a completely made-up song title (think My Cat Ate My Shoelaces or This Blog Post is Really Boring), and drop it in the bowl. Throughout the first half of the show, four actors will draw random song titles and turn them into fully improvised musical numbers, competing for the highly prestigious (and totally fake) Phony Award.
After a winner is chosen, the second half of the show kicks off with a full-fledged Broadway-style musical, entirely made up on the spot and based on the winning song. No scripts, no pre-written lyrics—just pure comedic and musical magic.
Yes, It’s All 100% Made Up
If you’re wondering whether the performers cheat—maybe sneak a peek at the suggestions or reuse pre-planned lyrics—the answer is no. Every single word, note, and dance move is created in the moment, making each performance completely unique. If you see the show more than once, you’re guaranteed a brand-new musical every time.
Fun for Everyone
