February 5, 2025Brad & Kate
The Iowa-based duo Brad & Kate are known for their heartfelt songwriting, captivating harmonies, and undeniable chemistry on stage. Ahead of their Made in the Midwest performance on February 14th at the Temple Theater, learn more about their journey, their influences, and what this show means to them.
The Inspiration Behind the Music
For Brad & Kate, music isn’t just about playing songs—it’s about connection.
“Music is just a vehicle to connect us to other people and to ourselves,” they share. Both grew up in music-loving families, surrounded by the sounds of The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, John Mayer, and Dave Matthews Band.
“Music was the soundtrack to all the good and hard times in our lives,” they explain. “Now, we find ourselves getting to write our own songs to be the soundtrack of others' good and hard times—weddings, breakups, summer nights out with friends, funerals.”
Defining Their Sound
Brad & Kate bring contrasting yet complementary elements to their music.
“Brad’s sound is a bit more folky—his voice is earthy and cool, and he has a lot of nuance and attention to detail in his guitar playing,” Kate explains. “I think my voice brings a pop sound and energy. It keeps the show fresh to have two vocal leaders. We bounce a lot of energy off one another musically and in our banter with the crowd (and with each other).”
Their mix of folk, pop, and storytelling creates an engaging and authentic experience for their listeners.
The Influence of the Midwest
Unlike artists who gain fame through industry connections, Brad & Kate have built their career through grassroots touring and genuine connections.
“We haven’t gained fans because we had a Nashville #1 hit,” they say. “We’ve gained fans by coming back to small Iowa towns, playing every winery, brewery, and Midwest event and venue—writing honest music and creating an authentic connection with our audiences. Midwest folks deserve that.”
What Made in the Midwest Means to Them
For singer-songwriters like Brad & Kate, Made in the Midwest is an essential part of keeping authentic music alive.
“It’s crucial to our career to have venues where we can create a legitimate connection with the audience,” they explain. “That’s really difficult to accomplish when you’re the background music at a noisy bar.”
That’s why this event is so special to them. “Iowa (and the Midwest) NEED venues to thrive where the culture is for a music-lover to listen and connect with up-and-coming local artists. It means everything to us to find a venue like this.”
The Power of an Intimate Venue
Performing at Temple Theater allows Brad & Kate to truly engage with their audience.
“All background music sounds the same,” they say. “It’s when you hear the artist’s stories, lyrics, and unique skills that you make a memorable evening as an artist and as a fan.”
What They Hope the Audience Takes Away
More than anything, Brad & Kate want their audience to feel something real.
“I love the buzz right after a connected performance,” Kate shares. “You’re all riding the same wave—vibrating on the same frequency. That’s what happens when you share an experience as a room full of people.”
With their mix of energy, musicianship, humor, and heart, Brad & Kate promise an unforgettable evening at Made in the Midwest on February 14th. Don’t miss your chance to experience their music in an intimate, one-of-a-kind setting—grab your tickets now!
