Acclaimed singer-songwriter Susan Werner returns to Iowa for an evening of smart, soulful, and genre-defying music. A native of Manchester, Iowa, Werner has spent over 25 years earning her reputation as “one of the most innovative songwriters working today” (Chicago Tribune)—and her performances are nothing short of unforgettable.

With razor-sharp wit, masterful musicianship, and a knack for reinventing herself with every album, Werner has built a career that spans jazz, folk, gospel, Cuban son, and musical theater. Whether she’s at the piano or playing guitar (which she picked up at age five), each show is a one-woman masterclass in storytelling and style.

Her catalog includes nods to Gershwin and Cole Porter (I Can’t Be New), New Orleans–inspired rhythms (NOLA), and a heartfelt gospel collection (The Gospel Truth). She’s written the music and lyrics for Bull Durham: The Musical and has had her songs recorded by Tom Jones, Michael Feinstein, and Shemekia Copeland. Her most recent album, The Birds of Florida, released in 2022, continues her tradition of thoughtful, compelling songwriting.

Known for her compelling stage presence and musical agility, Werner’s live performances blend humor, insight, and virtuosity. She’s been praised by The New Yorker for “bringing literacy and wit back to popular song” and by No Depression as a songwriter whose peers are “Jimmy Webb and Paul Simon.”

Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering her for the first time, this concert promises an evening of connection, artistry, and Iowa-born talent at its finest. Join us Saturday April 4, 2026 at 7 PM.
