Made in the Midwest Artists Shine on the International Blues Stage

February 2, 2026

The blues may have deep roots in the Mississippi Delta, but this year, Iowa artists made a powerful statement on one of the genre’s biggest international stages.

Several Made in the Midwest artists recently traveled to Memphis, Tennessee, to compete in the International Blues Challenge, a four-day global competition hosted by The Blues Foundation — and they returned with major honors.

Iowa’s Weary Ramblers: International Blues Champions

Iowa’s own Weary Ramblers took home top honors at this year’s International Blues Challenge, winning in the highly competitive solo/duo category. The duo — Kathryn Severing Fox of Creston and Chad Elliott of Jefferson — were selected from more than 130 entrants from around the world.

In addition to the overall win, Elliott was also awarded Best Solo/Duo Guitarist, further cementing the duo’s standout performance on the international stage.

The Other Brothers: Representing Des Moines as Finalists

Also representing central Iowa in Memphis were the Other Brothers, who were named finalists for Best Band at the International Blues Challenge. The group earned its spot in Memphis after winning the 2025 Central Iowa Blues Society Challenge, showcasing the strength and depth of the local blues scene.

Cedar County Cobras: Iowa Roots, Global Reach

Traveling alongside the Other Brothers were the Cedar County Cobras, winners of the 2024 Central Iowa Blues Society Challenge. The duo will open for the Other Brothers in their Made in the Midwest performance on March 7. Most recently, the Cedar County Cobras also placed as semi-finalists at the 2025 International Blues Festival.

Midwest Talent, World-Class Impact

From championship wins to finalist honors, these Made in the Midwest artists are proving that Iowa’s blues scene belongs on the world stage. Their success not only highlights individual artistry but also reflects the vibrant community of musicians, venues and supporters across the Midwest who continue to keep the blues alive.

Catch these celebrated artists live as part of the Made in the Midwest series — and experience firsthand the sound that’s carrying Iowa blues from local stages all the way to Memphis.
