Made in the Midwest: Carver Jones

The Made in the Midwest series continues with rising artist Carver Jones, bringing his guitar-driven rock sound to the Temple Theater on February 28. We caught up with Carver to talk about his influences, Midwest roots, and what audiences can expect from this intimate performance.

What inspired you to pursue a career in music, and who are some of your biggest influences?

"Music was one of those things that found me. Around 18, I was living in a van with my friends — it felt natural to street perform, then natural to pick up guitar, then natural to start writing songs. My influences always change, but the constant is individuality. Whether that’s Prince or the Red Hot Chili Peppers, I’m drawn to artists who sound like no one else."

How would you describe your sound to someone who hasn’t heard your music before?

"It’s very guitar-based. As I keep evolving, I want to mix genres effortlessly into some kind of rock and roll. At least, that’s where I’m at today at 22."

How did growing up or living in the Midwest influence your musical journey?

"I grew up in Nebraska, but also in a group home setting with kids from all over the world. I heard everything — Omaha radio and music from California to New York. The Midwest feels like a mental middle ground for the country, and it allowed me to learn far more than just my hometown."

What does being part of the Made in the Midwest series mean to you as a local artist?

"At this point in my career, it’s super reassuring and exciting to be invited onto any stage — especially one that represents my roots and is so close to home."

How does performing in an intimate venue like the Temple Theater enhance your connection with the audience?

"I’m really curious to see what the venue is like, but I always try to bring the energy each room needs so people leave with a strong understanding of me and the music."

What do you hope the audience takes away from your performance?

"Individuality. That’s what I want to cut through my entire career."
