Two Des Moines Performing Arts-Backed Productions Take Home a Combined Seven Tony Awards
June 8, 2026At the 79th Annual Tony Awards, two Des Moines Performing Arts-invested productions, The Lost Boys and Cats: The Jellicle Ball, received Tony Awards.
The Lost Boys, nominated for 12 Tony Awards, took top honors in the categories of:
- Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical, Ali Louis Bourzgui
- Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical, Shoshana Bean
- Best Scenic Design of a Musical, Dane Laffrey
- Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Jen Schriever and Michael Arden
Cats: The Jellicle Ball, nominated for nine Tony Awards, was recognized in the categories of:
- Best Costume Design of a Musical, Qween Jean
- Best Direction of a Musical, Zhailon Levingston and Bill Rauch
- Best Choreography, Omari Wiles and Arturo Lyons
Des Moines Performing Arts (DMPA) has long invested in Broadway productions through its membership in the Independent Presenters Network (IPN), a consortium of 40 leading Broadway presenters, theaters and performing arts centers. The support is just one way DMPA attracts major Broadway shows early in their tours.
DMPA invested in three nominated productions, totaling 30 nominations for the 2026 Tony Awards.
