Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Family Series 2026-27 Season Overview

The 2026-27 Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Family Series brings five imaginative productions to Des Moines Performing Arts stages — and this season, families have more flexibility than ever.

For the first time, families can build their own custom package by choosing any two or more Wellmark Family Series shows and saving up to 10%. Instead of committing to a set package, families can select the performances, dates and number of tickets that work best for them.

"The Wellmark Family Series returns with a fantastic lineup and more flexibility than ever," said Karoline Myers, director of education at DMPA. "Every family is unique, and the memories they make together should be too. Our new Flex Package gives families the freedom to build an experience that’s right for them while celebrating something every family values – the chance to be together in a safe, joyful environment.” 

The season features a lineup full of beloved characters, new stories and magical firsts. Velveteen, A New Musical puts a modern-day spin on The Velveteen Rabbit. Jim Henson’s Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock LIVE brings the Fraggles to the stage for their first-ever live touring show. The Cat in the Hat – Live on Stage! delivers classic Dr. Seuss laughs and delightful disorder. Tales of the Sun and Moon, a world premiere from Honolulu Theatre for Youth, shares celestial myths and legends from cultures around the world. Rounding out the season, What Do You Do With a Problem? transforms the bestselling children’s book into a dance theatre experience.

The new Family Series Flex Package makes it easier for every family to create a season that fits their schedule, interests and needs. Families can choose two or more productions, select their seats and add more shows throughout the season as they’re announced. Flex Pack holders also receive benefits including the best seats at the best prices, substitution and exchange opportunities, early access to newly announced shows and access to discounted tickets across other DMPA series.
