WHAT IS A SENSORY-FRIENDLY PERFORMANCE?

January 4, 2024

Sensory-friendly performances are geared towards individuals on the autism spectrum, those with other sensory sensitivities and their families. These dedicated performances will contain all the joy of a typical theater setting with a few adjustments to help those in attendance feel more comfortable.

These will include:

  • Alterations to light – house lights will remain on but dimmed - and sound – the volume on speakers and mics will be decreased
  • A variety of seating options including chairs, bean bags and mats
  • Movement is encouraged and breaks are welcome when needed
  • ASL interpretation
  • Staff that is inclusive of all the ways our guests need and want to experience live performance and will welcome audience members from the moment they arrive

Families who do not require these accommodations are still welcome to attend. In creating more sensitive, inclusive spaces, we find that what is good for some is good for all.

We look forward to welcoming you to the sensory-friendly performances in our 2023-24 Wellmark Family Series.

Here are our two upcoming sensory-friendly performances:
