About Los Llaneros
As a stand-alone ensemble, Los Llaneros (yah-NEH-ros) specializes in the often energetic and sometimes haunting melodies of the Colombian/Venezuelan Llanos (YAH-nos), or plains, featuring exciting syncopations played on the folk harp, the four-stringed “cuatro” guitar, and the maracas. The ensemble usually performs as a quartet, but they will accompany Sonia de los Santos in their smaller trio format, consisting of harpist Daniel Rojas (Colombian), cuatro player and singer Karin Stein (Colombian), and maraca player, singer, and percussionist Edgar East (Panamanian). In addition to the instruments listed above, these three talented musicians play a large number of other Latin American instruments, and they will accompany Sonia de los Santos on several string and percussion instruments, as well as the trombone.
