With recent headlines about restrictions on transgender individuals in the military, this year’s Intergenerational Panel will be a timely and powerful discussion on the experiences of LGBTQ+ service members—past, present, and future.

This dynamic conversation will bring together LGBTQ+ community members from across generations—Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z—to share their unique perspectives on military service. From the era when LGBTQ+ individuals were outright banned, through the days of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, to the time of open service, and now to the latest policy shifts, our panelists will offer firsthand accounts of navigating military life under evolving regulations.

Expect an eye-opening discussion that highlights resilience, progress, setbacks, and the ongoing fight for inclusion. Featuring LGBTQ+ veterans and active service members from right here in the Des Moines region, this panel is a must-attend event for those interested in history, advocacy, and the lived experiences of those who serve.
